Rules and Guidelines

---

Dress and Appearance
1.    Skaters must wear appropriate attire: skating dress, skating skirt, tights, sweaters, or warm-up suit.
2.    Hair must be worn away from the face. Long hair must be pulled back in a ponytail or braid.
3.    All skating club members must wear figure skates during club ice time. No hockey skates are permitted.
4.    As a member of the figure skating club please be a good role model and keep a neat appearance both in the rink at
       Steamboat Springs and when traveling to skating competitions.

Guidelines
1.    Please do not interrupt skating professionals during a lesson unless it is to notify them of an accident or injury.
2.    Please do not skate between a skating professional and a student during a lesson.
3.    Skaters practicing their programs have the right of way. 
4.    All skaters practicing their program to music must wear a bright colored sash or vest.
5.    Professionals have first priority when requesting music for programs.
6.    Skaters who are testing or competing have priority on program practice three weeks before test or competition.

Private Lessons & Programs
1.    There are additional fees for private skating lessons. All private lessons are arranged with the individual coach.
       Please pay your coach in a timely manner.
2.    You will be charged an additional fee for CDs and programs.
3.    If you are not able to attend your lesson you must cancel within 24 hours or your coach reserves the right to charge
       you for the missed lesson. Any deviation from this rule is solely up to the individual skating professional.
4.    All skating professionals must notify a student within 24 hours of a lesson cancellation and reschedule a make-up time.
5.    A student's readiness for testing and the level at which they will compete is at the sole discretion of the coach.

Conduct
1    Any skating professional or skating monitor has the right to remove skaters from the rink when endangering others. 
2.   Any skater in violation of the rules will be given a warning by a skating professional, skating monitor or rink personnel. 
      Three warnings will result in a dismissal for the remainder of the session. 
      The following are the general rules for all skating club ice time:
        a.    Use of drugs or alcohol will be grounds for dismissal from the club.
        b.    No game playing, sliding or chasing during club ice time.
        c.    No use of profanity.
        d.    No kicking the ice.
        e.    No dramatic display of emotion.
        f.    No chewing gum or having food and drink on the ice.
        g.    No stealing, please respect other skaters property.
3.    Please show common courtesy to club members, guest skaters, professionals, parents and rink staff.
4.    The locker rooms and lobby must be kept clean.
5.    Please keep the CD area clean and orderly.
6.    No standing around and socializing around the CD area.
7.    It is recommended that skaters wear hard guards at all times when not on the ice practicing.
       It protects the blade as well as maintains proper sharpening.
8.    Please keep all belongings and valuables in your skate bag.

Free Skating Session Guidelines
1.  Stroke around the perimeter of the rink
2.  Spin in the middle of the rink, except when practicing a program.
3.  Jump on the outside of the center circle.
4.  Do not skate through the center of the rink.
5.  Keep moving with the flow of the session.

Zero Tolerance Policy
All members and parents of SSFSC must comply with the zero tolerance policy: I will not verbally or physically abuse any of my fellow members, other USFSA members, USFSA officials, volunteers or coaches. I understand that poor sportsmanship will not be tolerated on or off the ice.

Ice Show Solo Criteria
Coaches will use the following criteria in determining which skaters will be chosen for a solo in an ice show.
1.  A solo is defined as a skater performing alone on the ice or coming out of a group number (step-out).
2.  The skater must fit the part.
3.  Solos will be picked for the overall entertainment value of the show.
4.  Seasonal versus year-round skaters will be taken into consideration.
5.  Skater attitude towards the show and the coaches is very important.
6.  Solo choices will be made based on the number of years a skater has participated in the shows.
7.  A group number will be performed by graduating seniors along with recognition at the end of the shows.
8.  Skaters must be committed to practice times during the entire season to be considered for a solo.

Discipline Policy

  1. Any skater receiving 3 warnings on 1 session will be removed from the ice for the rest of the session. Skaters removed from the ice must notify their parents immediately that they have been asked to leave the session and arrange for pickup.
  2. If a skater has been asked to leave 2 sessions, they must appear before the board along with their parents to discuss their status in the club.
  3. Skaters discussing inappropriate topics or displaying inappropriate behavior will be asked to leave the arena.
  4. Any skater causing damage to the ice arena or any one else’s property will be asked to appear before the board for disciplinary measures. The Howelsen Ice Arena will require the skater to pay 100% of the repair work necessary to restore the facility back to its original state.
